Didn't mind it being used in American Pie, American Beauty and American Psycho but a bit tired of it now. Don't know if this if they are trying to be clever with a simplified title like American Heist, not trying to be too fancy and just informing us that it's simply a heist movie but I'm just bored with it now.
It worked so well for the sniper movie, now everything is "American".
Its like adding some sort of "assumed respect" or "purported value". Because the media-consumers in this day and age are absolute nitwits. You have to shove it in their mind or they "don't get it".
If they do it with "American Star Wars 7" we know that they completely lost their minds ;D
Exactly I was thinking the same but didn't quite know how to put it, but "assumed respect" or "purported value" sums it up perfectly.
American Star Wars 7 - that made me laugh I wonder how many other films I could ruin with adding American to the title.
Trying it with different nationalities too - British Pie, Spanish History X, Captain Mexico, The Winter Soldier.

American Odyssey
American Crime
American Crime Story
The Americans
It seems to be a peculiarly American obsession. I can't think of any other country that does this with its films.

Wasn't The French Connection an American film that involved a connection that was French?
shareYeah but it's not a country that is doing it, it's individuals that make those decisions. It can't even be considered an American obsession because it is just a handful of people that play a part in naming the movies.
