Awful director.
Apart her first Australian movie Proof(1996) Jocelyn Moorehouse has made quite terrible American movies with awful reviews. I hope she returns at her best form with The Dressmaker!

shareBear in mind that The Dressmaker is the first film since Proof she both wrote and directed. A Thousand Acres and How To Make An American Quilt (I liked the latter btw) were scripted by someone else.
Also, she recently directed a play and both the play and her direction got rave reviews. I have some faith in The Dressmaker.
I agree this is the only thing I am not confident with this film. Moorehouse hasn't directed a film in over 15 years and her track record is pretty poor. Stranger things have happened I guess.
shareKate Winslet said this movie is a risky and quirky project but she likes this kind of movies you know. Plus there is the town ablaze at the end!
shareI have low expectations for this too based on exactly what the original poster has stated.
The fact that the cast for this is impressive doesn't really make me feel any more confident. Look at the cast lists for American Quilt and A Thousand Acres!
I will see the film anyway and if it does turn out to be a return to 'form' (i.e. as good as or better than Proof) then that will be a pleasant surprise. Always better to go in with low expectations I think.
I don't understand why this woman who's done nothing for two decades got funding for this camp film.
It seems she's actually married to the man who made the brilliantly camp film called Muriel's Wedding.
