Holy crap that was a fantastic story

I can't believe it - an Australian film worth watching... So rare to come by! (Come on, you know it's true)
I predict Oscar nominations for Judy Davis and Best Picture. This was SUCH a fantastic film! So funny, so dark, so sad, so wonderful. Not the usual sort of Aussie movie. I can see why Winslet made this. P.J. Hogan should write more films.

I saw it today, and agree. There was always something unexpected happening , my attention never wavered. It was quite unreal at times, but gripping. I loved the fashions - the dresses were beautiful. The acting was amazing - lots of cameos from famous Aussie actors, but I wasn't quite sure if it was really them! (I didn't check to see who was in the movie, so was surprised to see a few of them.) All around a great movie going experience, with bonus points for being an Aussie film. 🇦🇺 

OR more films should be made based on Rosalie Ham novels (with Jocelyn Moorhouse directing). When films or television is based on real literature (Game of Thrones, Justified, Longmire, etc) the writing quality is markedly impressive. This is for fairly obvious reasons. Writers in Hollywood are often called hacks and get away with generic typecast formulaic material, because that is what is expected from them. Fiction writers however can run amuck! I recommend Like Water for Chocolate, based on the novel by Laura Esquivel, if you liked The Dressmaker.
