SPOILER! the sorghum....

Why didnt they drown the first time they went in?

reply

The first time they went in weat, not sorghum.

reply

Apparently sorghum is less dense than wheat, but I'm not sure why he was unable to call out nor utter a sound to Tilly, when he was supposed to have drowned. There was just a (literally) deathly silence.🐭

reply

In the book, they mention that when they jumped into the wheat, they just landed on it, but the sorghum was less dense, like you said, and he just sank straight to the bottom of it, so it was all covering him.

reply

How come the mice didn't sink?

reply

They were too light. Their weight is distributed evenly over their entire body, but when Teddy jumped in, he jumped in feet first, so there was much less surface area, with all of his weight behind it.

...not to mention sorghum is a summer crop and not grown anywhere near Victoria, where the movie is set.
Another common mistake in rural-based movies is the arrow-straight and up and back style crops, which are achieved by GPS guidance.

Nitpicky I know.
