From totally RAD to totally BAD.. (spoilers)

Spoilers:

The movie was awesome until Teddy died. I know many of you will think I'm lame for wanting things to work out between them. Or that I can't appreciate the good that came from his death. But it's my opinion & I'm stickin' to it!

reply

And then her mom went and died. Ugh.

reply

Agree

reply

Well, I was disappointed at that, also wanting it to work out. I'm a sucker for happy endings, but I do not agree that the movie did not function afterwards, it did. In a way, it even picked up for the finale.

reply

Yeah I agree. The way that Teddy died was so random and horrible, but the way that the film changed in tone after that really worked for me. It felt much more original than the outcome that I think we were all guessing would happen, and I just really liked how unpredictable it turned out to be. Plus Kate Winslet was utterly brilliant in this film, it's probably one of my favourite performances from her.

reply

Totally agree. I found it devastating but the way it wrapped up was thoroughly enjoyable. Perfectly entertaining and a movie I will watch again for the dark aussie humour!

reply

I thought his death was silly, too predictable and dramatic but I didn't care for one second that it "worked between them" or not. But then again, I haven't been raised on Disney crap that fuels the fantasy that a story about a woman finding herself means a Prince Charming has to sweep her off her feet.

I don't mind endings that don't work out, but this one was a let down for me. There was just something about it.

reply

I thought the ending was great especially the death of Evan Pettyman and Almanac the chemist, i didn't like Teddy's death though. No happy ending sadly.

reply

Read the book....that's how Teddy dies

reply

Can't do it... Not my cup of tea. I'm more of a sci-fi gal. And if I hated these aspects about the movie, why torture myself, you know?

reply

I definitely expected something horrible to happen to them. I wished for a happy end but thought the story definitely would need to do that. It was definitely an unexpected and grotesque death. I thought he or both would die at their wedding. And after his death they would tear her to shreds next and that would be the end.

So at least happy she got out.

reply

It was rather maudlin, not to mention obvious.

reply

if teddy was wounded, broke hes leg or similar jumping into the silo. And hes mother tell Tilly after that she wants tilly to stay away from Teddy. That wouldve been enough motivation to "follow" the rest of the story. .

The horrible persons would still tease her.. tilly wouldve been filled of sorrow and stayed inside.. And all that follows..
the chief taking the blame for haschich cookies. etc.

In the end Tilly still gives them terrible costumes n burns down the village. And on the train when the conductor comes she .. thinks about going to Melbourne and to Paris or visit Teddy at his hospital, realiizing she isnt cursed anymore.

what u think?

what u think?

I think that sounds watered-down and twee.
