Lanark: A Life In Four Books by Alasdair Gray

This is one of my all time favorite books. Don't know if there is a film made by this book. But, atmosphere and scenes in the underground "hospital", artificial, monster like limbs, remind me so much of that book. Not so much about aliens but alienation between humans.

no dragons, but there is still some similarity in the metamorphose- human to dragon in lanark and human to monster in the signal

Tenuous, the metamorphose in the movie is permanent though,but I see your point.
