Why did they lure him out there?(spoilers)

To the shack in the desert i mean. With their technology couldn't they have abducted him anywhere. What was the point of the ruse. Also if the town is just a simulation on the alien ship then how were they able to escape and hide.Wouldn't there be some kind of alien surveillance system set up to monitor them.Or at the very least tracking implants on their test subjects. For a technologically advanced alien race this seems like a shoddily run operation.

I think as Damon says near the climax, 'Human will meets Alien Technology'. The idea is to simulate a situation in which he desires to escape from and in succeeding he managed to meld those two together. If it was made easy for him, and perhaps the opposite i.e evidently impossible, he probably wouldn't succeed in blending his will with the foreign leg attachments. A learning expefor Aliens on how we work.

Good post.

And, when others posit along the lines that if aliens have superior technology, then why don't they get everything right/this particular thing right/etc., I think, hmmmm, we have superior technology compared to past generations and we STILL don't get everything right and we get other things incredibly wrong, so... 

I think the original idea was to only lure people with high intellect. Hence why they go with the hacker bit.
