"the will to live" (and goldfish)

I thought this was a particularly interesting line when Damon talks to the hick sat in his chair with the shotgun.

I think there was an interesting philosophical point being made in his observation about the guys "will to live" being admirable, perhaps commenting on a difference in alien/machine technology (easy replication, downloadable memories) that once you get past the limitations of a biological organism that is born, grows, lives and dies, the "will to live" doesnt make as much sense, its a concept tied uniquely to the mortality of life as we know it, but is irrelevant to a system where a different form of life exists.

I thought it was quite clever anyway

On the other hand, maybe I missed it, but what was going on with the goldfish he picked up off the floor and put in the bowl of water, is that supposed to be an artificial creation as well?

Maybe, the reference at the beginning to "When Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" could be a sign that all animals are also machines.

This is not a signature!

That's a reference to Philip K. Dick's 1968 science fiction novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", which served as the basis for Blade Runner.
