Legs?
Maybe I just missed this but how did his legs get broken/disabled?

In the scene where the couple have their little "fight" while sitting and looking over the canyon, the guy said something like "How many more MRIs? How many more tests? Then eventually a wheelchair.". So he had some sort of degenerative disease. Maybe something like Muscular Dystrophy.
shareI thought it was in a flash backwhen he fell during a marathon into a river / creek. As peopleran over him. I could be wrong....
shareI got the feeling that when he fell in the race, it was because his medical condition was getting worse. It looked like a high school cross country race and by the time he was in college he needed crutches to walk.
shareI give a +1 on that. But what does the river stood for that blocked the road?
My best guess would be, that it stands for the canyon they couldn't cross later in the movie and at the end he finally made it when he rushed through the glass. So he got beyond his own boundaries? Was able to do something beyond his imagination? He definitely reaches that river (his boundaries) a couple of times in the movie... Don't know if this makes sense.
