The key to the main point of the movie is...
SPOILERS
At the beginning Jonah types something about Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Anyone familiar with the book knows that the subject is about androids becoming more human through understanding emotions. Well this is the main idea of the film. The "aliens" wanted to test the limits of human emotional power by bringing them to the edge. The people inside the simulation were just previous failked test subjects.
I'm still struggling to understand a couple of things. What was the deal with the cow? Was the cow an android too? Also, is the experiment just on Nic? Are Jonah and Hayley even the real Jonah and Hayley.
The movie is average at best, it could have been much better in my opinion. One thing that really bothers me about movies like this is why are characters always so retarded? I mean you have this supposed MIT geniuses and they follow a signal to an abandoned hut in the middle of the desert at night? Why the *beep* didn't they wait until daytime at least if you are going to be as retarded as to go into the hut? I understand that writers do this kind of stuff to provide a reason for everything else to happen but I just find it lazy and poor writing ability when they can't come up with something more realistic and less retarded than that.
