Will this appeal to people that r not young women?

A friend wants me to go to this movie this weekend. This looks like a movie for young women. I'm older, so doesn't appeal to me. But maybe it's a general-appeal movie. My friend is an older man. Is this movie made to appeal to us, and not just young women?

reply

i think some people would definitely say it appeals more to young women/people, but i went to a weekday matinee and there was a mixed crowd with primarily older people. (i'm 33 and most of the rest were probably 50s-60s, pretty evenly male/female.) in the bathroom afterwards there was an older woman (i'd guess in her 60s) washing her hands next to me and she asked if i'd just seen this movie, and then said how much she enjoyed it and told me her favorite part while laughing and smiling.

Thanks.

I'm a 60 y/o male movie fanatic who loved it (88/100). But my tastes are broad.

The thing is, it's just a really good movie that transcends its subject matter; you don't have to be able to "relate" to it to get "into" it. You have to not mind or be offended by crude physical humor (fresh, original, crude physical humor, which is rare these days), but I think that, or a hatred of abortion rights, would be the only stumbling blocks to really liking it. The six main characters, in particular, are very likable, a rare thing in comedies, where having someone be an ass**** is often a plot engine of sorts (Horrible Bosses, e.g.).

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.

I'm an almost-60 y/o female movie fanatic who loved it. Well, I'm not all that into crude physical humor, no matter how fresh, but I think it was integral to understanding the main character so I'm okay with it.

My only real problem with the movie was the short running time because I wanted to spend a lot more time with these people.

Spoiler: Maybe I'm just a sucker for endings where the characters are under a blanket on a couch watching TV. I loved it at the end of The Descendants, too.

Weirdest spoiler justification ever!

Also, I heard about this film from Jenny Slate when she was on the Kevin Pollak Chat Show (ep #200) ... a pretty fun ep if you've got 72 minutes to kill.

Really well-said, emvan. I just got back from this and loved it. I'm a 27-year-old male and thought it was funny and beautiful. Jenny Slate really shines here.

I saw it with my dad who's in his 50s and he liked it almost as much as I did.

Well I'm 18 and male, and this is one of my favourites of the year. It's a treat, and yes you can see they've broadened the appeal. It ought to work for everyone.

Everyone on the internet assumes that about me. But, alas, I am a flaming heterosexual.

I have a digital copy which i intend to watch Sunday afternoon but TBH i've chosen this movie to watch out of a huge list & as a 50yr old broad minded Male, i'm finding what i see (trailer) & read about it from others very intriguing. Hope that helps

Well,I am a young male and it appealed to me!

I'm a forty year old man, and I thought it was fantastic. But I also really like the TV show "Girls" (which, I've read, is not abnormal: more middle-aged guys than young women watch that).
