Keep the tub!

Seriously, why do they always assume a master suite requires a big stand up shower? I would much much prefer a tub. Preferably a big soaker tub with jets. And a shower head for when I need to be clean but have no time to soak.

I can't be the only person that would be totally turned off by there being no tub...

I agree that the ideal master suit should have a large tub in addition to a shower. But if I had to choose between one or the other, I'd choose the shower because it's more practical and necessary for working people to be able to jump into a shower before getting ready for work.

Now a kid's bathroom should have a tub first and foremost.

I'd rather have the old fashioned tub with a showerhead in it. Seriously, showers are necessary but at least once a week I have to get a bath. If I was shopping for a home this would be a serious turnoff.

I like that, myself. It will become inconvenient however when you age to the point that getting in and out of a tub is a problem. That's why the trend is toward curbless showers, I suppose.

Showers cost alot less in both price and space. That's why they love putting them in

Me too. Much easier to keep clean that a large glass shower and a huge tub.

I'm with you, rebschucks. I like a tub (not that fiberglass junk...but a real porcelain tub) with tiled walls and a shower head. Then, install glass sliding doors on the tub/shower. When did the glass sliding doors become unpopular? They are so practical, and I much prefer them over a shower curtain.

You shouldn't have to choose between one or the other. If it's lack of space you're referring to then that's what shower/tub combos are for. That's actually what I prefer.

Shower/tub combos are considered pretty cheap though and don't really belong in an expensive house that is being flipped.

Unless it is a guest or secondary bathroom, if it doesn't have enough room to support both a tub and proper shower, the tub needs to go and a nice shower installed.

FWIW, I hate those cheap fiberglass "Jacuzzi" tubs with the noisy mechanicals underneath them. I have one in my condo (it came with the place), and the longer I live with it, the more I dislike it.

It's an eyesore - the spigots & water intake gasket look awful - they yellow with age, collect mildew, and are difficult to clean. The tub doesn't even retain warmth very well. My cheap tub / shower combo has all the charm of a lab device.

If I had money to burn, I'd rip that sucker out and replace it with an old-fashioned cast-iron soaker. Or more likely, just put in a free-standing shower area.

My master bath has both a freestanding shower and a deep tub. Our other full bath has a regular tub with a shower head. We have choices.

A shower-tub combination works perfectly. I don't need a shower the size of a small bedroom. I'd rather use that square footage for storage space.
