Is anyone else bothered by the bathrooms?

I don't know why, but I hate that square box yet put in the showers! It drives me insane!

My husband and I notice they usually never put a bath in the master bathroom. I would never buy a house without a master bath and shower.

reply

I agree with you,gotta have a bath!

reply

One of our upstairs bathrooms has a tub (with a shower) and the other has a stall shower.

Who still takes baths? Don't know anyone that use tubs. Showers are the way to go.

reply

I take a bath almost everyday. I will not buy a house w/o a master bathtub. It can be a combo as long as its a large tub. It's a MUST for me.

It depends on the housing market. These homes tend to be in very expensive areas and are very small. A necessity in a suburban McMansion may be too space consuming in a market that they're playing in.

Wouldn't water just lay in there? Would you have to squeegie it out every time you take a shower?

I like the idea, but the more I think about it, having a square box with right angles in a shower seems like a good way to get mildew build-up.

reply

It depends entirely on how you placed the shower niche (if I am understanding correctly, that's what everybody has been calling the square box). First, the designer is supposed to build the niche into a wall where it would get the least amount of shower spray. The bottom front ledge (or maybe the "sill"?) is supposed to be angled forward just slightly so that any water would drain out of the niche. An experienced contractor would know to do this without being explicitly told. Hopefully, you would have hired an experienced contractor to build and tile your shower ;).

I had two shower niches added into my showers when I remodeled those bathrooms and they were absolutely the best decision -- no more of those junky shower caddies hanging around. Yes, there is still a little water, but it drains and dries pretty quickly. No problems with mold etc.

This is good to know! I always liked those little alcoves but was skeptical.

I just had my bathroom remodeled and also asked for two niches. My contractor put them in and explained that they would be on a slight angle so water could drain out. I love mine too...no more bottles or soggy soap bars littering my shower. I only regret not getting a safety bar installed....

Isn't that the soap dish?
I know I've seen it filled with soap and hand towels before!

Always double sinks. That's as awkward as a two-hole outhouse. I prefer to do all my bathroom stuff alone, including tooth brushing.
