Sleazy seminars

I am a big fan of this show and of Christina and Tarek, but have been so disappointed to read stories about how they are lending their images and names to a high-pressure, costly series of seminars by a company called "Success Path" that puts on these seminars called "Flip Advantage." Evidently they use Christina and Tarek's images and names and this leads people to think they will participate, but the couple does not actually even take part in the seminars. They usually appear in a brief video. HGTV has disavowed any association with this scheme. This has really changed my view of this couple. How much money do you have to make, and do you have any ethics at all? They have a huge flipping business now, and are raking in a lot of money from the show. They don't need to do this, and the fact that they have chosen to lend their names to an operation like this really changes my view of them entirely.

I agree, that seems more like something Armando Montelongo (Flip This House San Antonio) or Scott Yancey (Flipping Vegas) would do, since they often give off the impression they will cut as many corners as they can and still do a barely legal job. Christina and Tarek always seem like they do everything by the book, so to lend their name to something below par would be disappointing.

Omg! Scott Yancy's commercial just came on my TV! I am dying laughing! Lol

reply

Lol Yancy does do those seminars and scam people out of a lot of money. However, a fool and his money are soon parted. Don't fall prey to these guys!

reply

Oh yeah Montelongo too!

reply

That's what all of these real estate scum bags are getting into. Just robbing people of thousands of dollars.

reply

there are many many complaints about yancy see this link. their commercial runs all the time on the tv http://www.popsugar.com/home/Flipping-Vegas-Star-Scott-Yancey-Accused-Real-Estate-Scam-41012464

they keep upping the amount charged and basically getting people to use their retirement 401k money

I haven't seen a single commercial for the flip flop couple but if they are doing this..then..shame on them

Good info!
HGTV management wipes it's hands of the seminars and El Moussas' participation, although the network or program is almost always mentioned in seminar advertisements.

"...HGTV senior vice president Audrey Adlam tells me: "HGTV, its sister networks, and Scripps Networks, LLC are not associated or affiliated with Flip Advantage/Success Path, and we are not involved in the El Moussas' association with Flip Advantage/Success Path. HGTV has no further comments to share about the seminars..." by Dave Lieber, The Dallas Morning News

Those real estate seminars are just three or four hours of bull-plop. I know a guy who attended one given by Carleton Sheets (there's a flashback) about 15 years ago. Sheets was, indeed, one of the speakers, but it consisted of 2 or 3 of these used-car salesman quality, oily real estate agents who used tons of double-talk to say nothing. Basically, it ended up as "If you can get a bank to approve you and you have 10%-20% to put down, you too can purchase a house" Well....duh!

reply

I don't know who - if anyone - is advising them. They probably thought lending their names to those seminars would be easy money, and that they'd never have to think about it again after the checks cleared.

I get it; they're showbiz, and don't really do many renovations of their own anymore. Fine. But if they're trying to build a brand for themselves, that's really NOT the way to go.

reply

Well it will be interesting to see who dumped whom

reply

it was reported that they both have been seeing other people for months....maybe it was mutual but will be interesting to see...also what do the peole they are seeing look like??
