$85,000!!!!!!

On House Hunters last night (June 22 at 10 pm) I saw a couple buy a house in Toledo, Ohio, for $85,000 (the asking price had been $90,000) after looking at 2 others which were $94,000 and $109,000. These were all 3 bedroom homes with 2 baths. The one they bought was all brick. The expensive one was a lakefront house with a huge yard and deck. This home was 2 stories and in great shape although it needed some work. I can't believe the huge disparity between houses in Toledo and southern California, let alone Toronto and Vancouver. It's mind boggling. I can't even imagine what someone could get for $100,000 in southern California!

Not much.
I used to live there, and today $100,000 will probably get you an old single-wide trailer.

I bought my 3-bedroom, 2-bath 1,700 square foot home AND the property it is on in Tampa for $33,100 cash and spent $15,000 rehabbing it. No mortgage payments.

Uh you can't even buy a plot of land to build a house for $100k where I live in Silicon Valley. Cheapest 1 bd 1 ba condo in my city is $400k.

These prices make me want to sell my small condo in Socal and buy a decent size house in another state, then I am reminded I would have to actually move.

My parents spent that much on just the land purchase when they built their house in North Dakota....that wasn't even farm land. That was IN TOWN.

Properties in Ohio dropped in the last decade or so because Ford and other good paying jobs left the area.

Money talks. Go to Northern Maine and you can get a move-in ready 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with a yard and garage for $65,000. Reason? There's little to no work available up there and the cost of living is peanuts.
