I'm not going to anticipate Trick 'r Treat quality...that's a pretty lofty expectation. But if I get a fun Halloween film with a clown that gives me the shivers, I'll be more than happy.
You need to watch a LOT more DTV horror. The clown character alone made this a 5 to 7/10. Nowhere near Trick r Treat, I agree, but better than VHS (not VHS 2 though)
Good flick. I wouldn't say 9/10, but I saw it in Imax 3D and really dug the visual experience. It wasn't perfect, but it's not the piece of *beep* some people seem to think it is. 7/10 probably
In a nutshell: Not great, but good. For a movie called All Hallows' Eve, they should have certainly poured on more Halloween atmosphere. And the first two stories could have been stronger. But definitely worth a watch, especially if you've exhausted the rest of your seasonal supply.
It seemed like a cash grab to just throw some crap story in with Damien's other two films, and a really dumb third short film with a random alien. Damien should have just made a brand new movie starring Art. Best thing he's done so far that I've seen is 'Terrifier.'
I think if Damien decides to do another one, he needs to work with a solid director and not do everything himself.
"Cash grab" is a bit harsh; for all of its flaws, it's clear that Leone's heart is in the right place and that he was earnestly trying to pay homage to old-school slasher flicks. How well you think he succeeded is one thing, but it was a labor of love clearly more than it was a get rich and famous scheme.
