Time Portal Question.

why did not anyone else from 1958 stumble on to the portal and ended in Al's closet?
and when every time Jake or Al appeared in 1958, why only yellow tag Hat guys noticed them and no one else?

I read the book, and although the details are a little hazy, I do remember a lil bit. The portal was basically one way for a couple of reasons. For one it's a fixed point in history, you always go to the exact time and place every time you use it, so time doesn't pass there when you aren't using it. Second, you go through a wall in a place rarely traversed.

And the third is kinda tied to your second question. It's magic, and there's some external force controlling events, and this force also keeps people from the spot. Except, I suppose people who were already there before hand? Not entire sure. But that's why the yellow card guy is all fucked up, he is next to this time portal and is heavily affected by it, he doesn't completely reset every time like everything else.

But I didn't watch the show so all this may be completely irrelevant to your question

Thanks for your answer. It was not one way as Al ans Jake both traveled through it multiple times. Also in the final episode of the series when Jack saves JFK and return to 2016 to find that the world is in a mess and goes back to reset it, he is followed by 3-4 guys who tried to assault him. These guys could've easily followed him through the portal. May be i am missing something.

also, don’t forget. in the diner the portal was not at ground level, and when Jake first went through he fell to the ground. Also the first time he came back he stepped up. THAT is not clear but watch it again and you’ll see he began to step up.

So I figure that if someone back then walked to where the portal is, their lower legs would be below the portal and they’d just keep on walking and the portal would not transport them. Now if some kids were right there playing jump rope, well....

Sir, the best explanation by far.
Thank you.

Boring answer, but since "the past throws up obstructions," maybe the portal itself is smart enough to only allow certain persons passage through.

I was curious to see whether Jake would successfully bring Sadie into 2016 with him, like they'd been planning. Would she remain behind on the street?

I knew that she died in the book, but the series was already straying pretty far with the addition of a much-younger Bill Turcotte (which I actually thought was an improvement). Maybe it'd treat Sadie differently, too.

spoiler: it didn't
