shareAgreed, and she played the role perfectly. I wish they hadn't recast the part for the 2016 version and rather did a really good make up job on her instead. The older actress wasn't bad, but the chemistry With Franco that they had built up was missing. It ruined the ending for me a little bit.
shareI disagree, I think the fact that 50 years had passed REQUIRED them to recast her, otherwise it just seems fake. People who are that old don't look anything like they did at 20 or 30, just google around to see what I mean.

The makeup departments can do some pretty amazing things these days. But it was probably just easier to find an older actress (and pay her less) and not have to be in makeup for several hours (and pay the makeup people more).

It's not our money so it's really easy to say things like "how much would it have cost?" It's easy to spend other people's money. share
It also would have made it easy this way to film the sequence where he imagines he is dancing with the younger version - they would have had to come back with her out of make up to film those few seconds, where it would have been very easy for all cast and crew for her to jump in for a few steps of the dance.
It didn't bother me, but I am always curious to see what path shows take - I have often been disappointed with the makeup, and regularly (though not always) impressed by the casting. I similarly like looking at the casting used for child and teen versions of actors, parents and siblings to see if I "believe" that the faces etc suit. (Sadly my wife often notices when eye colour doesn't even match!)

How they did it in A League Of Their Own always impressed me.
The had a different woman play Geena Davis' older version, but they found an actress that truly resembled Geena Davis. They dubbed Genna's voice during those scenes and many people, including myself, thought they had just done a fantastic make-up job on Davis. I did not find out until about 10 years later that it was a different actress, but dubbed voice.
Might have worked well in 11.22.63 if they had done that for the older Sadie, found someone that strongly resembled her and dubbed the voice. share

A League Of Their Own is exactly what I thought of. The older woman who played Sadie in 2016 is beautiful. I kept half-expecting James Franco to make a move on her.
If they would have tried to make Sarah Gadon up to look 53 years older, they would have botched it miserably. Trust me on this.
