Where is this supposed to take place?

Has it ever been made explicit where this takes place? I would assume one of the prairie provinces (it is filmed in Alberta), but has it ever been stated explicitly?

Yes, Coal Valley.

Oh, wow - just looked it up on Google Maps. I did not realize Coal Valley was a real place, so I never thought to see where it was on a map.

Coal Valley is in Yellowhead County, Alberta. It is near the intersection of Range Road 210A and Highway 734 aka Highway 40 aka Forestry Trunk Road. Township Roads 473A and 474A also pass through the area. It is in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, about due west of Camrose, Alberta. It is essentially in the middle of what now is 'no where'.
