quick question. I haven't watched the 2013 movie with Maggie Grace nor seen the series. Should I watch the movie first or can i just watch the series? Is the series a continuation of the movie?? thanks! This series looks really good!!
In my opinion, it's not necessary to watch the movie before the TV series. In fact, I think it's better not to watch it; I thought the movie was terrible. The acting was so bad & the dialogue so cheesy, it was almost painful to watch. I almost didn't watch the TV show b/c of that, but I gave it a chance. I'm sure glad I did b/c it's fantastic! It's my favorite show on TV. I'm so bummed every week when it ends & wish it could go on for 6 hours. So watch the series & enjoy!!

I didn't even discover there had been a movie until after I'd already seen some of the tv series. The show is not a follow-up or continuation, so it can definitely be viewed and enjoyed without having seen the movie first.
--- I smell dark magic! It's a bit like burnt popcorn.
thank you so much magic and alljesus! Appreciate the advice! Really looking forward to starting this new show. Now just have to wait for the 2nd season of Cedar Cove! lol
I was coming on to ask the same question. I had taped the movie thinking it was the series, and then realized a couple weeks later that I had missed the first two episodes but decided to go ahead and dvr it. I have just watched the first few minutes of the first episode of the series, and I thought it strange that it was so different, especially how the women responded to Elizabeth in both. In the movie, the two women who met Elizabeth (Lori Loughlin and Jean Smart) were very rude to her, but in the series, Lori Loughlin's character seemed much more gentle. I don't mind the change in leads. I did think the acting in the movie was pretty bad, especially with Elizabeth's sister, Julie. I can't wait to get more into the series and do hope it is better than the movie!
The movie has two simultaneous story threads going on, while the TV series appears to be following just the one story (the niece), although they might bring in the Aunt Elizabeth story later on.
Like some others on here, I had no idea about the movie until after I started watching the series. The movie has a completely different feel to it and in my opinion the series is much better.
One thing, I like Daniel Lessing for the leading man. Doesn't he looks awesome in that Mountie uniform? Much better than his "I'm a beach bum" look in Last Resort. Also much better than Daniel Sharman. Not that I don't like Daniel Sharman, because I do. I would like him even better if he were allowed to use his natural British accent in a show. However, I haven't seen him come into a role that he can truly own, yet. I think he has a lot of potential as a leading man, I just don't see that happening as long as they keep casting him in the second lead slot. I mean, anyone could have told you that no one would be able to make it as the second love interest for Allison in Teen Wolf, that role was doomed after the epic love story from season one; but he doesn't do a bad job in the role of Isaac. Getting back to the movie: I was just starting to like his character, Edward, and then it was over. I wish the movie had continued and we could have gotten to know him a little better. I think Daniel Sharman and Poppy Drayton would have eventually made us fall in love with their relationship, if we had been given enough time to watch them fall in love with each other. Having said that, Daniel Lessing just has so much more presence. He totally "owns" the role.
As for the leading ladies, I like all three of the Elizabeths, but for different reasons. They each emphasis different characteristics. So much so, that you can watch all three performances and think that you have watched three separate stories. Of course, two of them are supposed to be different. It's like watching different versions of Cinderella, in a way.
Regarding the characters, I did like all three Elizabeths. In the movie, however, I did not like Julie as much as in the series. For some reason (especially at the beginning of the movie), the girl who played Julie acted as though she was performing Shakespeare on the stage. I also was very glad that they took out Jean Smart. I really like her as an actress, but I really couldn't deal with her Scottish accent. Glad I only had to listen to that for a few minutes!
I really like Daniel Lissing as well. I was really surprised that he is Australian. He does a great American accent. Most actors (mainly from England) seem to think Americans speak more "properly" than we really do. I always feel like we are really more "mush-mouthed," if that makes sense.
I am hoping we have more than one season. I am really liking the characters. I can't imagine that they will wrap everything up in one episode. *crossing fingers*!
I do hope there's a season 2 , because they did not deal with the accident at the mine in the finale to Season 1 ! I would guess that's because a season 2 ,is coming to pass next year or sooner. I wonder if they know at Side Reel....Here is what SideReel had ,Episode 12 change of Title from Final Adieu to : When Calls the Heart S1E12 Prelude to a Kiss » Plus they refer to it as Season Finale not Series Finale So ,I guess a 2nd Season is in the works , cause they sure left allot of un-resolved issues lying open !

they always do...once they have it down pat, that is... there are some that first started out in the states, and their accents, and I'm they sound kind of funny...then I realise that that's their first role in the US>...and..
I think that Julian McMahon was one of them in the first series that he ever did in the US.....he sounded kind of off, and then I was like oh yeah, he's trying to get rid of his aussie accent....
