I really am liking this show. Like another person posted, it has a "Little House On The Prairie" feel to it - and that's one of my favorite shows (both when it was on prime time and now in reruns). I love the characters, the storyline and the pace so far.
However, I have discovered that my enjoying a show seems to be the jinx that gets it cancelled! Producers, DON'T STOP SHOWING THIS ONE! You have a winner with this one!
Given that its a show produced by & shown on the Hallmark Channel, I think that it'll last at least through the first season...which seems to be only 10-12 episodes.
That's why I expect WCTH will get at least a second season, airing sometime within the next year. However beyond that is anyone's guess and definitely depends on it's ratings draw for the network.
I've never really watched Hallmark shows, do they do well in America? Is it a popular Chanel?
I love this show, it reminds me of Dr Quinn, only she's a teacher.
Until recently with Cedar Cove and this show The Hallmark Channel didn't really have original TV series. They do original TV movies like the ones that usually air on Saturday nights right before and after When Calls the Heart airs and they did the series of Mystery Woman movies with Kellie Martin and the Love Comes Softly movies. The Love Comes Softly movies were based on the books of Janette Oke, the same author who wrote the books that When Calls the Heart is based on. They also air reruns of the Hallmark Hall of Fame movies and reruns of TV series like Golden Girls and I Love Lucy, Cheers, Frasier, The Waltons & Little House on the Prairie. In the past they've also aired shows like The Bob Newhart Show & Empty Nest.
They do a morning talk show called Home & Family and at one time Martha Stewart had her own morning show, but besides the morning shows, Cedar Cove & When Calls the Heart there aren't any original series on the channel. There is one other original series that hasn't premiered yet called Signed Sealed Delivered (2014). I believe it starts in April, probably when When Calls the Heart finishes season 1.
