S2 Previews from the Home channel

I found after watching S1 that Coal Valley is a metaphorical discovery for Elizabeth, the teacher/miner. Where the mining town provides coal energy throughout the region, the town is Elizabeth's mountain to mine. And she finds in the widows the coal that warms and fuels the town and in the process, her own heart, and the town's children are the hidden gems she unearths from the fuel-rich coal beds that she polishes and shapes.

That’s her adventure in the far out Northwest country. And the constable? Ahh, he’s that unexpected and rare diamond forged deep, deep down the bowels of the mountain that shone brilliantly as he clattered into her sight atop his strong, sturdy, bronze horse and bright red uniform in episode 1.

How can she not return to Coal Valley after going home at the start of S2, because that’s what the preview hints at that Elizabeth will want to stay…...home, in her town with her town folks.

Well, there’s no question about it – the show is about Elizabeth living in Coal Valley throughout S2……right? 😉

In rewatching S1E11, when Wyatt appears, the science boy genius, I realized one of Elizabeth's students is named Gem.

This metaphor of Elizabeth the miner and Coal Valley her mountain is an underlying message of the show. That's nice that as a viewer I caught this. The producers are conveying their message in the show.

Then of course the picture of the widows covered in coal dust in S1E2 was what started this thought. :)
