They really need to go back to the way the show was in season one. They need to go back to the style of dress, they really need more children and less of Elizabeth's family as well as less of Jack's ex fiancé. it was more of a wholesome show in Season One, now not so much.
1) Overacting of ex-girlfriend, and her sister. 2) Her spending her time with her family, more then being a teacher, which is what this was supposed to be about. 3) The new beau for Elizabeth... why do we have to have a rivalry? And the nurse.... what is going on??? 4) The pristine town, and their clothing. It had more of a Dr. Quinn feel about it last season, more dirty and realistic. Now it is as if they have created the stepford town. 5) Where are the kids? It is more of a soap opera now, instead of Elisabeth growing as a teacher and a person being out of her comfort zone. 6) The way they dress bothers me also. It is too modern, especially their hair... women didn't wear their down like that back then. 7) The disappearance of regular characters. I don't remember her name, but she was accused of burning down the church... where did she and her family go? A whole storyline was focused on her, whole episodes, and to just act like she never existed. 8) Introducing new characters, that are pointless... the new marshall guy, with the wife who disappeared on him and is now back... why? I do like the sawmill owner. 9) Everyone is so happy. Not that I want to see people unhappy all the time, but they are unrealistically happy, especially in a place where people work so hard and live hard lives. Last season had its sappy moments, but this season... good grief
It is a completely different show. They changed the format so much, that I am bored with it. This show is no longer about a young girl discovering herself in a place that is the exact opposite of what she is used to. Seeing the struggle of the people around her, trying to teach these children. Getting used to living a less luxurious life. Why did they do this? It came back for a second season because people liked the show. I don't understand the logic of making so many changes.
Regarding the happiness, apparently they hit the limit of grief and now all is perfectly well after losing their husbands/sons/brothers.
Pretty much the only change/plot aspect I like is the sawmill owner. That's a realistic progression after the mine company lost in court, and the guy is happy go lucky enough without being obnoxious (*cough*Rosemarie*cough*). Having Gowan stick around however is absurd. Suddenly he's the new mayor by default and manipulating the town still and the former mayor's wife is sucking up to him? Back in those days, that man would be driven from town at best. At worst, there'd be some Frontier Justice, Mountie Jack or not. And the former mayor's wife would be completely ostracized for helping the guy who got half the town killed. It's just entirely unbelievable.
I agree! The costumes, hair, geopolitical errors, and anachronisms spoiled this season for me. I'm sick of the stuffy family in Hamilton. The stars are still very charming and sweet, but all the mistakes just drove me nuts.
Yeah I agree. Only just starting to watch Season 2 and the tone is so different, and even the appearance of the town, the houses, the fashion, the storylines etc. It doesn't even feel like the same era. It appears more 1920 than 1910.
I can't stand the ex-fiance, or Elizabeth's family and sisters, or the city life. The idiotic simplistic drama and melodrama. They've lost exactly what set it apart from other TV Shows, and forgotten the charm of the original premise and characters.
Apart from the physical changes made to the town and the annoying new characters, I don't like what has been done with Jack. His demeanor has changed and now he seems more occupied with hanging around the saloon and working as a carpenter. He's more outgoing, wears civilian clothes most of the time, and has somewhat sidetracked from his Mountie duties. He's not the silent observer that would resolve situations in a discreet manner.
