Why different leads?

I've watched the 2hr movie. So my question is why do they have different actors playing the leads instead of the ones that were in the movie? ?

Probably couldn't afford them? Erin looks more like the book Elizabeth, imho. I'm kind of looking forward to this, I get a sort of Anne of Green Gables/Road to Avonlea/Little House on the Prairie vibe.

that Mountie is pretty good looking, I do say...now summer's going to be a long, long way...lol

After watching the first episode it reminded me of Christy (1994)with Kellie Martin.

Stephen Amell played the male lead in the movie, right? Well since then he went on to star as 'Oliver Queen/(Green) Arrow' in the CW comicbook action series 'Arrow' (which is one of that network's highest rated shows), so that is obviously why his character was recast for this TV series.

As far as Poppy Drayton, she probably had other projects too, so they recast her as well. (Sort of like how Katherine Hiegl played 'Marty' in the original 'Love Comes Softly' TV movie yrs ago...then went on to Greys Anatomy & larger films.)

It could be the other actors are doing other projects now. I think originally it started out as a two hour special but it had quite a big audience so they decided to turn it into a series. In addition, Janet Oke has other books in this series. My son is in the TV series, he plays Miles Montgomery....however they haven't listed him yet...they by accident listed him in the TV movie version but he's really in the TV series version. He has done 6 episodes and is ten years old. His name is Logan Williams.

I just started watching this series on Netflix. I kept trying to figure out during the first few episodes where I've seen your son! He's young Barry Allen on Flash :) congrats to him on the start of a great career!

The two hour movie and the TV series are based on different books from the same series/author. The females leads share the same name but the male leads are different. The movie is based on the book titled "When Calls the Heart" and the TV series is based on the book "Where Courage Calls". These are excellent books as is the movie and TV series. LOVE THEM ALL.

I actually like that they cast "unknowns" for the show. Katherine Heigl as Marty still kinda irks me. I haven't watched the When Calls the Heart movie yet so I don't know if Maggie Grace was any good. But so far, I'm loving these two leads, they have good chemistry.

It's not different leads, they are different characters. The first teacher is the Aunt of the Elizabeth, she was named after her aunt.
