Oh, Rosemary

I find her character so irritating. I'm sure it's intentional, but she's just so over the top. It's not so annoying as to make me want to stop watching, but I hope they use her character minimally.

Couldn't agree with you more! I am usually very tempted to fast forward through her scenes. There are several other minor characters that I wish they would just write out, especially Avery's wife (she's just not necessary) and Gowen. I get that they need a "bad guy, but Gowen is way too stereotypical and predictable. I would much rather the children at school and their families be the side stories for each episode!

I absolutely can't stand her. She is ridiculous, over the top, self-absorbed and a busybody. It made me think a little less of Jack that he would ever be engaged to suck a ridiculous woman, but men can be stupid...Nora is a pretty obnoxious, manipulative woman as well.

I just don't see Jack going for her type, a flamboyant actress. BTW, I really like Lee, he's got a great smile.

reply

I only like Rosemary when she's using a normal voice, but it's rare for her to not speak like she's in a ridiculous play.

reply

I completely agree. What bugs me even more is that the other women in town are so accepting of her. At one point she brags about how many men she's dated... I can't imagine that her comment combined with her crazy throwing herself at Jack behavior would actually win her acceptance at this point in history. I'd think the other women would shun her completely. Plus, I understand Jack is a gentleman, but even a gentleman would at some point put his foot down and firmly tell her to stop throwing herself at him. This storyline has been very frustrating to watch and has made me like Jack, and the show, much less.

reply

Agreed. In that place and time, her behavior would have been frowned upon. This is why I don't see Jack, the country boy, going for a flamboyant actress. He's so into the idea of serving others, so why would he go for a woman who basically only thinks of herself?

reply

It made me annoyed with Jack as well. And the women so accepting when we know back then for a woman to be an actress was akin to a woman being a prostitute as it was considered scandalous to be "on the stage." Her whole storyline was annoying.

reply

When she sang, You Made Me Love You, that was a anachronism as well since the song didn't come out until 1913.

The Show is set in 1910 so 3 years is not a large stretch. But no I don't like her either shes devious and rude and wears pants!

reply

Oh, I agree completely! I'm watching her second episode, and I absolutely loathe her. I constantly find myself wondering why Jack doesn't send her annoying behind back to her precious New York. Yeah, he's a gentleman. But even gentlemen need spines. It seems that his was ripped out by that annoying, conniving, fake twit.

"Never mind walking a mile in my shoes. Try thinking a day in my head."

reply

Yes, please get rid of her, Nora, Gowen, and the ex-mayor's brunette wife!

Why would Nora get divorced and stay in the same town her ex lives in? What a psycho.

reply

Those three are all annoying

I am at the beginning of Season 2. I was so happy when she left for San Fransisco and sickened to discover she wasn't even gone an entire episode. I read this thread hoping to read she was gone because I DO find her irritating enough to stop watching. The make up, hair styles, usage of songs not yet written, and clothing bought off the rack (particularly love it when it is polyester) are easier to ignore than this horrid "acting." Please write her out!

reply

Ah, if life allowed us to summarily get rid of the people we don't like, how incredibly boring this world would be. Moreover, the people we tend to dislike reveals something about ourselves.

Pascale Hutton plays Rosemary brilliantly, giving her all the quirkiness and idiosyncrasies of a self-absorbed actress who sees the world as a cosmic stage. However, underneath that is a woman with a huge heart. It's obvious she cares deeply, and it often shows during those brief moments when she is able to drop her obvious facade.

I really like Rosemary. She rounds out a great cast of characters by bringing some fantastic quirks of her own. I thoroughly enjoy each moment of her character on the screen. She is often the character who makes me laugh the most.

reply

I absolutely agree with you Spasek!

reply

Well said.

Pascale Hutton's character portrayal is very well done and quite legitimate. Had a girlfriend like her, once. Don't forget that she hides a high degree of intelligence too, [indicated by her ability to pick out the mayor's cheating scam at poker].

I came on IMDB specifically to look for more of her work to watch.

Also, it is true. What we hate or dislike in others IS a reflection of something within ourselves that we don't like, to put it simply. We are all literally, connected.

She is annoying, I can't stand her ham acting style, even when she tones it down it is still too much. And she just isn't charming enough to be getting away with how she behaves.

Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.
