Okay Obviously Jake is a great actor and in this movie he takes out of the ball park. But why would he get all the other awards from all the other big time awards but not get an oscar nod? From a big time movie role. I dont get it. This oscar thing must be corrupt. He definitely deserved recognition of at least an Oscar Nod. At least all the other awards had the intelligence to do so.

shareOne of the best films of the decade. Strikingly original and shocking in every regard. One of those movies that’s genuinely one of a kind. It should’ve been nominated for best picture and best actor for Jake. Hell, even Bill Paxton could’ve been nominated for best supporting actor.
shareI think it was just a tough year. Look at the Best Picture contenders: Birdman, Grand Budapest Hotel, Whiplash, Theory of Everything, etc... In the Best Actor category, Redmayne, Keaton, Cumberbatch, Cooper, and Carrell: this was a dynamite performance by Gyllenhaal, but he was up against serious competition.
Of course, every award is what it is - a vote by one particular jury - but that ceremony was tough.
