The closing shot right after the final line diffuses the tension way too much in my opinion.

I think movies tend to cut to credits too late. By contrast, Whiplash cuts to credits immediately after the climax and it's perfect.

Agreed, it wouldn't make it a noticeablly better movie but any improvement is improvement.

I'm not sure that it would fit with the vibe of the film, but interesting suggestion.
