One simple thing I don't understand in the movie

Why didn't one of the shooters at the end, given that he just shot a whole restaurant of people, shot Lou's partner just for looking at him in the car, shoot Lou, once he saw Lou standing right in front of him filming him?

Obviously a plot device so Lou could continue filming, right? But in such a generally intelligent and subtle film, I just don't understand it.

I don't think we absolutely need to "understand" it. How could we ever understand what the killer was thinking at that moment when he was staring at Lou? Even if Lou were not fictional.

I prefer to look at it this way. In his own way Lou was leading a charmed life, getting away with things that maybe a person shouldn't always get away with. His not getting shot when it looked likely would just be another one of those.

I don't think "understanding" it unequivocally is necessary to appreciate the whole movie.

I think he shot on impulse when he was stuck in the car. It was a defence mechanism. After he got out, he observed that Lou wasn't a threat, and then got distracted by police sirens. That's my interpretation of it, anyway.

You know, I think you two are both right. My main problem with this part was how overwhelmingly the shooter would feel he needed to shoot Lou, since Lou was taping him mere feet away. So he had him on camera, his face, his act. ...Then I realized that at this point he had already killed a bunch of cops. More were likely on their way, and he had about a 1% chance of getting away with it. (I know this is probably common sense. I was probably too involved)

Remember that he really only saw Lou for a few seconds before the police sirens became audible. I think the best explanation is that he either didnt see Lou as a threat, or he was confused why Lou was still filming him after Rick had been shot.

Once he heard those sirens, its safe to assume that the guy stopped caring about Lou and focused on getting out of there before the cops showed up.

Would take a little while after an impact to regain conscious awareness. In reality the shock of a light in the face would be enough

Or Lou saw him looking for a gun
And set him up to be there when he found the gun

Lou made it clear to his colleague he set him up to be killed.
