I am shocked this has such a high rating.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion and yadda yadda yadda, but after watching this and barely making it through (it really was an act of will on my part to make it all the way to the end) I came on here expecting a rating somewhere between a 3 and 4 and was surprised to see it so high. This movie annoyed the ever living hell out me, especially the awful acting and the seemingly improvised dialogue. It was mostly just a lot of undeveloped characters yelling and talking over one another and cutting each other off the entire time. Just listening to these people try to act out the scenario gave me a headache.

Couldn't agree more. Another example of a film maker who is trying to promote discussion by presenting us with something that was never meant to be fathomable. He knows that, but we're not supposeed to. Anyone who claims to "get it" is lying. There is nothing to get. Dreadful.

Not sure what kind of response you're looking for.
Obviously, different people want/value/expect/like different things in movies/dialogues/story-lines, and that rating is what it is, because the movie appealed to a lot of people.

What you consider a flaw, may have a different effect on another viewer.
For example, the "improvised" dialogue (especially when they talk over each other) was something I really liked - it lent to the credibility and realism of the scenes and thus increased my enjoyment of the movie. And you can say similar things for all the other aspects of the movie which you didn't like. If you don't like something, it doesn't mean everyone will share your opinion.

What a bizarre comment. I guess the same response anyone expects when posting anything on any board on here? It's a place for random comments, thoughts, questions, discussion and such about movies, is it not? 

Haven't you ever watched a movie, strongly disliked it and then found out a lot of people actually loved it and then was like "What the hell did I miss?" This was one of those cases for me. The two friends I watched it with hated it also (one even wanted to turn it off after half an hour and I told him to stick with it because maybe it'd get better). Unfortunately, we all ended up regretting that decision, probably most especially me since I picked it out based on the reviews.

I was genuinely surprised this got positive reviews after I looked it up later and that hardly ever happens for me. This had almost no redeeming qualities. It seemed like they had an outline of a plot and just let a bunch of (very bad) actors clumsily bs and ad lib their way through the dialogue. You'd have four people at once starting sentences at the same time and never finishing them and others trying to scream over everyone else for like 90 minutes. There were even times where people screwed up what they were planning on saying and backtracked to correct their grammar! The characters were not developed at all and the actors were extremely cardboard and unlikable, so why should we care about them or what happens to them? The plot was just your usual "let's make everything strange and nonsensical" so people think we're being original claptrap that ended up going nowhere. They eventually just dug such a hole they didn't even know how to end it.

So yeah, cool for you and whoever else got something out of this. I unfortunately didn't and will avoid movies from the guy who made this in the future.

All I'm getting from your post is "This movie is objectively bad, and I'm one of the few people who realise it". Just out of curiousity, did you ever consider you might be the one who is wrong? 

Most people think The Phantom Menace and whatever Adam Sandler stars in are good movies, too. I guess it is what it is.

The Phantom Menace is a good movie.

Most people however think it's *beep*

Most people this, most people that...

Believe it or not I once knew someone who claimed to have known someone who's friend told them they read about someone who knew someone's Cousin's Aunt that rated The Godfather 1/10 AND didn't like ANY David Lynch movies!!
Probably lies but you never know!!

Actually the dialogue was wonderful. The intention was to present a bunch of confused people trying to tackle something they did not understand. The acting was very good.

No, most of the movies I enjoy are generally well received, and the movies I dislike are generally disliked. But that just means I have good taste. ;)

This film's intention was to show ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Their fear, confusion and the resulting state of mind are depicted pretty well. Their dialog is just a reflection of that. Could this have been made much better. I think so.

The acting wasn't very good but I really really enjoyed this film and I would happily watch it again. Especially to further analyse who was who in which reality.

On the other hand, I am not a native speaker of English, therefore I may be forgiving bad acting or dialogues easier than natives.

So ... did you write your review in the review section, but perhaps felt it was not good enough because it would just get buried and there would be no one to give a "yes, it was very helpful" click? At least not in this particular reality.

It's not a movie for everybody and I have friends that I would not recommend this movie for as they would find it boring.

I thought the acting was great and very believable. It reminded me of friend gatherings I've been in in the past ... without the sci fi stuff happening.

I think with a bigger budget, there are things that could have been done better. My interpretation of alternate realities not everybody would be the same in every house party reality, nor would the hostess even be in the same type house with the same friends. Not every self would be wearing the same thing or be at the same weight, haircut, or spouse.

Surely there was a reality where Em divorced her husband or even murdered him.

Why in this reality is it so important that you can judge a movie and feel that your opinion always reflects the general mass opinion of a movie. In this reality, it didn't so you ... uh what come to the board to get backup because something must be wrong with the rating on imdb. Perhaps something fishy, because afterall you are never wrong when it comes to movie ratings on imdb.

Or to promote your horror blog, which btw, is pretty stupid given the rating of the movie. You just convinced me that I would not get anything out of your horror blog and it would be a waste of time for me to check out.

The only people who are going to check out your blog are people who mainly agree with you and your taste. So you really picked a stupid place and way to plug your horror blog.

What the hell are you going on about with all this "reality" crap? You come off like a pretentious asshat.

reply

did you even watch the damn movie, because if so, you would know what the reference to reality means. you come off like a hostile retard.

reply

easy: the script is supposed to have a deeper meaning, while still having a mainstream appeal. that's enough for many people. on the other hand it is dumbed down enough for everyone to understand. it caters to a certain part of the mainstream crowd. those that for example would refuse a gilliam film for being "too complicated".

reply

Do you realize that your OP is right out saying "I'm a *beep* stupid *beep* who didn't get the movie"?

reply

i realize that i have no FACKING idea what YOU are saying.

I found it hard to watch in the beginning but it really had me interested as the story unfolded. I think the bad Emily going out to find a better reality for herself made for a good ending. I really would have loved to have heard that conversation at the end when the other Emily called.
