Cool eerie vibe
Did a little wiki diving, had not heard of this novella which was older than Dracula as a vampire tale.
This film was pretty intriguing, from the opening scene. It is filmed and textured in a way that makes you feel like you are watching a film that was made a hundred years ago. When you see the vourdalak (an undead zombie vampire kind of creature) it looks intentionally amateurish. When it talks, the mouth doesn't move. You could think it looks fake and cheap, but it gives you the feel that you are really watching a movie filmed in the 1800s (or at least from the early 1900s, with the cinema technology of that day).
I hope more people hear of this and have a watch. It is spooky and creepy and a little goofy in the right amounts.
