Ending of the movie (spoilers)

I wasn't paying close attention to the movie, but I sort of understood the general story. I guess my inattentiveness caught up to me, because I didn't follow what was going on with the final explanation.

The father was abusive and threatening the mother? Was that the father who was pulling the mother away in the flashbacks? Was there another man behind him?

Then they showed the older sister grabbing the spiked garden tool. What did she do with it? Did she kill the father? Herself? (Did she have cuts across her face?) Was the sister "good" or evil? As I said, I wasn't paying attention to most of the movie. I'll probably never see it again, but I'd like to know what actually happened.

Other than that, I agree with most of the reviews, that it's a cut above the typical Syfy Original Movie while still being mediocre and problematic. The cinematography was noticeably good. I had to look up the filming location because it appeared that they were in a Japanese forest or some other far-off locale. But it seems that they filmed in or near Vancouver, BC. That's surprising because I've seen so many Vancouver-area forest scenes in other sci-fi shows. This forest looked nothing like those settings.
