Where was the armored bulldozer?

Years ago I read about Marvin Heemeyer. A man who built a personal tank and rode it through town, demolishing the institutions that were taking away his property. I thought the story would make for a great film.

Then I hear that one of my favorite directors is making a film based on that story and I get pretty excited.

So I rented the bluray from Netflix and watched it last night. Throughout the whole movie I was eagerly awaiting Kolya to walk into his auto shop and get to welding, but needless to say that did not happen.

Leviathan left me emotionally blue-balled. It didn't have the ending I craved and expected. Despite its length it felt like it ended a little too early.

Well It was still a pretty good film. Nice photography. Some excellent scenes (some boring ones too). I just felt like the film was missing something to make it really exceptional. Maybe the armored bulldozer was that thing.

Anybody else surprised by the lack of personal tanks? Would it make the film better? Let me know in the comments below.

I read in an interview by Zvyagintsev that he wanted the protagonist to demolish the mayor's office with a bulldozer at first, like Heemeyer did, but he changed the plot with time. In fact I added a Trivia fact about it, you can read it if you like. It may have been for the better that he dropped the initial idea, because what we saw in the film is more true to life. Yes, Russian people are like that, weak and spineless.
