Dream cast

I was thinking over who I'd cast, were I given the chance to make these films with a legit budget. How about...

Dagny: Jessica Chastain
Galt: Leonardo DiCaprio
Rearden: Chiwetel Ejiofor
James Taggart: Guy Pearce
Cherryl Brooks/Taggart: Alicia Vikander
D'Anconia: Oscar Isaac
Eddie Willers: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Lillian Rearden: Julia Roberts
Dr. Floyd Ferris: Jared Harris
Dr. Robert Stadler: Donald Sutherland
Ellis Wyatt: Matthew McConaughey
Wesley Mouch: Oliver Platt
Mr. Thompson: Jon Voight
Ragnar Danneskjold: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Cuffy Meigs: Gary Oldman

My dad always wanted Sidney Portier as John Galt.

I could see that. Rand herself apparently thought of Dagny as being like a young Katherine Hepburn, and when she was trying to get the miniseries version off the ground, was thinking of, of all people, Farrah Fawcett for the role.

No idea on who she wanted for Galt, though. Reputedly, she modelled Galt in many respects on her husband. Honestly, a young Peter O'Toole would be good choice, or a young Paul Newman--middle-aged Paul Newman would be a good Rearden.

I found Farrah Fawcett completely unbelievable in the part until she broke away and showed us she could be a real actress. I wonder if Rand saw that aspect of her before the rest of the world or she just wanted one of Charlie's Angels as Dagny.

I can't say anything for nowadays, but back in the 80's I saw Harrison Ford as Hank Reardon, Sigourney Weaver as Dagny and for John Galt it was either Robert Redford, Peter Fonda or Donald Sutherland.

But man, Peter O'Toole would have been just phenomenal to listen to.

Actually, Walter from the newer films would be a bang-up Eddie, so just make that change and you're good to go...though I'd push to give Statler and Waldorf bigger roles here, give the themes.

good point. i was considering statler & waldorf to combine and play the role of galt, but kermit's magnetism and gravitas were just too irresistable for the part. besides, s&w are more known for their pithy one-liners - i question if they could handle the burden of a sixty page one-liner. it would definitely be a new twist on the character!
