Best thing about this is...

...the psychedelic imagery, landscape, atmosphere, and effects.

Could've done without the relationship drama, the forced interracial coupling (two movies I just watched in a row had this [nahhhh, that's not pandering LOL]), the all-girl-power military unit (they sent in an all female because all the male units failed???? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 [nope, no pandering here either]), and Jennifer Jason Leigh's flat, uninterested affect.

The movie did have some good ideas. Just not executed as well as they could've been. Also, there were a lot of aspects/images reminiscent of other movies (The Fly, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Creepshow [Jordy Verrill], Alien, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Evolution etc) that were all mixed together and made into it's own new thing. Although I didn't love the movie, I would stop and watch it again if I happen to be flicking through the channels and it popped up. It could use a sequel. But because it bombed it probably won't get any. Here's the full movie if anyone's interested in watching it. No ads, no pop-ups, no sign in, no registration. Just click on the video and it'll start playing in a couple of seconds.

Seriously? You do know that interracial couples are very common in real life, right? There was nothing "forced" about showing that onscreen. I see interracial couples all the time---they're a part of real life, so of course they should be shown in the movies. How the hell is that "pandering" to anyone? Just admit you have a problem with interracial couples, and stop whining about it. Get over yourself with that nonsense. Movies pander to specific audiences according to what they like all the time---that's what movies do, and how they stay in business---but you only have a problem when it's interracial couples being shown---how pathetic. Interracial couples go to the movies too, you racist idiot. This was a pretty damn good film that deserved way more promotion than it got, which was virtually none---mainly because it's so weird, strange and different. Annihilation is currently on Netflix, but only until the end of this month, for some reason---it only came on there about a month ago.

The most interesting thing to me about this movie was the science aspect. Mostly the scenes involving Portman talking about cell biology. The special effects weren't that convincing to me and I was more spooked by the overall dangerous atmosphere of unknown territory. I liked the ambiguous ending too. As far as sci-fi horror, it's average. Bonus points for the original premise though.
