Let me first say I loved this book. I read it twice. Then I read the rest of the trilogy. I was very happy to see that this might be a movie, and am hopeful it will be done well. There are so many things from my imagination that I'm excited to see on a screen. Here are my suggestions for actresses to play The Biologist in order of preference :

Katee Sackhoff
Rosario Dawson
Radha Mitchell
Jessica Chastain

natalie portman was an awful choice, good lord
edit- they should have gone with an unknown actress. i think natalie portman is a perfectly fine actress but i don't think she fits the role particularly well and i think it's going to be distracting to have such a famous actress in that role.
Ugh, I agree. I don't want it to be Natalie Portman. The only lyrics advantage I see to her being in it is box office cred.
