Loving the LIVE!

Never saw the first two seasons so I've nothing to compare it to, but this live stuff is good. Very fresh. Hope it goes over well.

I liked Season 1 , but found Season 2 unwatchable so skipped most of it. But doing it live is capitalizing on these stand up comics' talents, plus the live tweeting (and accidental phone in on episode 1!) is genius.

I'm definitely back on Team Undateable for Season 3.

reply

Actually I could not watch the whole live ep. series of totally pointless cameos and an iffy story.

I agree its more like sketch comedey then a tv show now. Plus that they keep making it a point to prove they are live is annoying. The point of being live is to have real laugh track and what ever but it shouldn't take away from the story they are trying to tell, which since season one has become very very weak. Even the other characters are just extras that say one liners any more. If it last I wouldnt be surprised bc my name is earl made it. This show was better when it started.

James McAvoy real or not real. <3

love the Scott Foley kiss. Laughed harder than any written sitcom jokes.

reply

Same. That was brilliant. It was like a real meta-fiction moment.

reply

I really loved the special live episode they did at the end of Season 2, but I barely enjoyed the premiere of Season 3. All the meta jokes are killing the immersion for me.

reply

Season 1 was awesome.

Season 2 was king of....blah. I enjoyed the live episode they did to end the second season.

So far, I'm LOVING season 3. 

Oh...and a comment to the OP : I agree. The live episodes are great!

Season 3 has been fresh indeed. It's like SNL & Cheers had a baby.

reply

I love it too! It feels like you are actually at the live performance.

reply

Yes, it is. And, as was pointed out in another thread, it's even classier than SNL because these folks don't rely on cue cards. They actually memorize the dialog and work without a net.

SNL's really becoming annoying because of the cue cards. They're not even looking at each other!

They're not even looking at each other!

It's been that way for a very long time, although it has become worse over the years. Even in the first few seasons, in the 1970s, it was obvious; but in the beginning they at least tried to memorize some of the skit dialog and use camera angles that made it look more like they were looking at each other.

It's most noticeable for guest hosts and regular cast members who are not trained actors. They either don't have the ability or don't have the patience to memorize it. And now they don't even bother to get the camera angles right.

Agree, it's fun and their live moments make you feel as if you're part of the audience.
