Live is going down hill fast

Lately the episodes seem to focused on trying to trip each other up and cast in jokes, it is really spoiling the show. The flow is really off, the actual jokes scripted are just falling flat. Go back to the old format please!!

Chris D'Elia is the only cast member even remotely able to do a live run without stumbling or cracking up. The premise might have been novel the first few episodes, but has sadly become rather painful to watch lately.

Have you watched the show? D'Elia is the worst at flubbing his lines. It's painful to watch him stutter and stammer through a word or a phrase. It's even more noticeable for him because he's so manic on screen that he speeds through everything. He seems very laissez-faire about the show in general.

"Live" worked best when it felt organic. Now it seems forced, like everybody is trying too hard. I think it would be better if they all learned the script as if it were going to be taped and then waited to see if any opportunity presented itself to play around a bit instead of seemingly skimming the script and planning to goof around.

It's just awful now.
Bianca Kajlich has no ability to do the live shows...but adding Whitney Cummings was a huge mistake because she's wooden and flat in everything. This show has fallen off of a cliff.

I have to agree here. And when the inspiration hits her to capitalise on a moment, she messes it up and gives up within a second of starting it.

I respectfully disagree. The trying to make the cast laugh is the charm of a live show. It is in the same vein as the old Carol Burnett show when Tim Conway would ad lib.

reply

The problem is nobody on this show is Tim Conway or anywhere close to his level of talent.

Still better than every other generic sitcom out there where everything is perfectly rehearsed. I like the live shows much better.

If the show is getting worse, why are the bands getting better? I mean they wouldn't go on a show if they didn't think it had an audience they wanted to reach. It is different.

reply

I disagree. The show has been getting better as it gets less "polished". I have been laughing a ton during the last couple of episodes. The actors are all letting their improv skills shine through and there is some really funny ad-libbing. I kind of like it when they screw up the lines as well, because they all have such a great energy and are just funny people in a general sense so they make you laugh with them.

I agree completely I love this Live version. I have been laughing so hard this new season.

My husband and I quit watching the show after the 3rd episode this season, it was painful to watch them stumble all over their lines, if you want a live sketch comedy show then write one but trying to run a sitcom that way ruins the whole thing. If they decide to drop the "live" aspect, we will watch again to see if it improves, but until then we have more than enough other shows on the DVR that we can't keep up with, no reason to add this one that sucks as a live show.

Maybe people were curious when they ran the last show last season and it got higher ratings, instead of thinking maybe some of them will watch when we come back, they decided wow that worked. For me it worked as something different one time, not let's do it all of the time.

The other thing I dislike is when they do cross-over shows. If I watch show A but not B, putting show B characters in show A and vise versa isn't going to make me fall in love with show B, it is just going to annoy me as I probably already DVR 2 other shows at the time show B is on so I don't get to see the end of the story if they blend both show with one story. I just end up skipping show A that night since I won't see the end of the story which is the opposite of what they were trying to have happen.

Well, it has been canceled now. haha I liked the show. But, I don't think the live thing was as good as it originally was.
