Not digging season 2

Tried watching the first few episodes but couldn't get in to it. It just doesn't pull me in and some of the scenes are very weird and disturbing. To be honest I'm not sure why they decided to choose this as the theme for this season. Do most people even know who Gianni Versace is?

If people don't know about Gianni Versace, I think they at least know about the Versace as a brand.

As for me I knew who he was, and I was shocked and saddend by his murder. But I was into fashion, and even went to fashion school few years after it happened, so I guess I might be biased.

So for me it is interesting. Especially as I didn't know that Cunanan actually killed more people before he killed Versace.

And why did they choose it, I guess it is because Ryan Murphy (the creator) is gay. So he of course knows who Gianni was.

His other show Feud is about Bette David and Joan Crawford which are gay icons. And I read on IMDB that he is going to release a new show this year which is set in New York in the late 80s and it will show its ballrom community among other things. So I assume he likes to do shows which are interesting to him on a personal level.

I did not know Ryan Murphy was gay. That makes a lot of sense then. Still think he'd have been better off doing something more interesting to the general audience though. Hopefully the rumors of season 3 being about Hurricane Katrina are true. I'll definitely look forward to that.

But yeah this whole fashion stuff simply bores me. To each their own though. With that said I am still pretty surprised that they decided to go with this type of story. But like you said maybe Ryan Murphy just wanted to do this for himself.

So there is a rumor for Hurricane Katrina in season 3?!

I remember there were rumors for Hurricane Katrina for season 2. And I just remembered it few days ago and thinking what happened with that idea.

I am not from the US, I know about the hurricane Katrina as the natural disaster of course, but what would the criminal aspect of the story be?

I read this on Variety:

“Five Days at Memorial” chronicles the real-life aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, focusing on the Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans. The center was left without power for days after the epic storm, which led to hospital staff euthanizing almost two dozen terminally ill patients. Dr. Anna Pou and two ICU nurses were ultimately charged with second-degree murder for the deaths of patients who were identified as having lethal levels of morphine in their systems."

So I guess that's what the series will be about and pertain to the 'Crime' part of the show.

reply

Thank you for the info, didn't know about the incident.

Yeah it was pretty wild. I don't remember ALL the details of it but between George Bush, the looting, and just the straight up chaos that ripped apart Louisiana it will make for a great story. The stuff the above poster posted is some of the crazy stuff that happened.

It looks like season 3 will be Katrina and season 4 will explore Bill Clinton and Monica Lewisnky lol. That should be interesting.

Good info here.

The book "Five Days at Memorial" was rather dull and boring for me - I couldn't get past the first few chapters. Maybe the TV series will be better.

As for this season, I want to like it (I think Darren Criss is superb in the role), yet it hasn't grabbed me the way the OJ story did. I remember when Versace was murdered, and then Princess Diana about six weeks later, which (I believe) took the media attention away from the Versace murder (which made the papers every day until Diana's death).

But ACS 2 is moving rather slowly for me, and rather predictable.

For me I just can't seem to connect to the the fashion aspect part of the story. It simply bores me. And on top of that there are a lot of strange and disturbing scenes. Its definitely not my thing.

It is rather muddled so far. I agree with you.

"The People v. O.J. Simpson" was interesting basically due to the fact that everybody and their mother knew the events that took place in the '90s, so there were high expectations when the first season aired. Not a lot of people were aware about the story of Gianni Versace and Andrew Cunanan.

Back in 1997, I vaguely remember his death being reported on the news. I didn't know much about Versace myself. If you would have asked me who he was and what he did for a living in the past, I'd say it's some rich guy that made clothing. That's about it.

When I heard that they switched from the Katrina storyline to the Versace murder, I was a bit disappointed. Then I read the actor from "Glee" was going to be portraying a serial killer. I thought it had terrible written all over it. Glad I was wrong.

I'm very intrigued. We're five episodes in and every single one of them has kept me on the edge of my seat. Darren Criss is such a fantastic actor. Édgar Ramírez looks like he could have been Versace's twin brother. Ryan Murphy is doing such a wonderful job with the second season thus far.

well here in Europe Gianni was huge and people certainly knew more who he is than O.J. but yes, i was wondering also was he really that famous or loved in the US? because after all this is called AMERICAN Crime Story so I understand how people are less interested in this season.. I'm sure there are figures they are interested in more than Italian designer... but for me season 2 is way better than the first one :)
