In the movie they made the whole Katie and Travis thing this big deal... and even made a texting battle all detailed on the day of his death before the murder scene, but in everything I've read about this case and everything that was said in the trials I haven't read or found any information where they have brought up anything about the girl Katie, and if Katie texted Travis the day he was murdered. Was that just put in for the movie... or what people may have thought was going on? Even Jodi didn't hasn't brought her up... or I haven't been able to find her talking about that anywhere. Maybe she hasn't brought her up because she doesn't want to seem like a crazy jealous ex, but wouldn't Katie herself or Travis's friends bring it up in the trial?
From my understanding, Katie was a combination of 2 girls that Travis dated. I think the whole texting thing was added in for the movie. the saddest thing in life is wasted talent
As the other poster said, "Katie" was a composite of at least two women in Travis' life. To my knowledge, the latest girl was not as serious as Katie is portrayed in the movie.
As far as the texts in the film setting off Jodi, that is pure speculation, probably not the way of it at all. People have theorized why Jodi was "set off" when she began to attack Travis, but we don't know so the movie improvised. It may have been something like texts, hearing about another girl in some way, or nothing at all. Clearly, Jodi came armed to hurt Travis, so she didn't need much or perhaps anything at all to decide to kill him then.
I would have thought she snapped over a phone call or texts, but the gas cans clearly show a premidation along with the staged burglary at her grandparent's house where a gun was stolen. The same caliber gun that was used to shoot Travis. She is clearly a weirdo psychopath and I hope she's enjoying her cell with the above 100 degree temperatures and no air conditioning. She must stink to the high heavens.
In the movie, she went there with the intent to kill Travis, but he surprised her by being glad to see her, and inviting her in. She also became encouraged when she found out that he and Katie were broken up. She was content that they were back together the next morning when they were playing around in bed, but snapped when she learned (from the texts) that he saw her as only a toy. She realized that he would never love her, and they would not end up together. So she went ahead with what she had pre planned.
