Shows that cheap practical effects>cheap CGI. Gave it 6/10, maybe being generous.

The creature effects here have a certain charm, which only practical can have - when they are done right.

I'm not anti - CGI across the board, but watching this reminded, I think it benefited from not going the CGI route.

The movie was silly but it managed to entertain me. There were enough laughs in there. I was kind of shocked but also laughed when he sacrificed the dog to help them escape. Before hating me for laughing at something like that, it didn't look realistic at all and the tone of the movie made it impossible to take anything seriously.

The beavers and other creatures, while not realistic, were fun to watch.
