Genuinely creeped me out...
I usually hate IMDB topics that include a movie-watching CV, but in this case I think it's relevant. I love horror. I have spent a ludicrous amount of my life watching horror, be it good, bad, or indifferent, and have developed a very strong personal preference: I want a story and characters I care about, and I want to be scared, rather than splatterbored or watching the 'maniac with a quirk' for the millionth time.
For me The Borderlands delivered.
It's not a perfect film by a long chalk but it had intelligence, wit, and thoughtfulness, and, crucially, expected that the audience would have the same qualities.
One small, final, observation, there is (no spoilers) a scene that involves a gravestone. That scene has gotten under my skin, and won't leave, even though we have all seen it before. That is high praise in my book.
