SUCKED

I have had the pleasure of seeing four really good found footage films these past few weeks and one piece of garbage..
Alien Abduction, The Den, Wer, Afflicted all very good found footage one being better than the next and for me personally kind of giving this horror sub genre a second wind. I was sick of the genre and done with FF format..
The Borderlands is exactly the reason why i was growing very tired of the FF sub genre..nothing going on,nothing going on, nothing going on..last few minutes somethings going on but the hell if there gonna show the viewers.. THE END
that was poorly executed..
take a look at some of those other titles, there not perfect FF films by any means they all have there plot holes and suspensions of disbelief but they are far better than The Borderlands...

I loved it, thought it was very disturbing and very creepy, oh and the ending was brilliant. How exactly was it poorly executed ? If you watched and listened to what was shown and said before you would have known or guessed what happened at the end.

reply

Because it did what every horror found footage movie does nowadays, anwers next to nothing with regards to its mystery and then ends abruptly before we are told what is really going on and I too am tired of this it started with blair witch and happens everytime , I enjoyed this film but it was ruined by lack of answers

reply

Thats what makes them scary you goose. As soon as they show the monster/demon/ghost whatever, a horror movie loses its creepiness, and alot of the fear goes away. We as humans are scared of the unknown. Films that use this fear effectively can truly be scary

reply

poorly executed..let me elaborate...
yes the film was creepy...
they were on too something and you knew it was out there whether it was some sort of Pagan or satanic cult...i was sucked in....
however, whatever it was leading up too gave absolutely nothing away..
Trust me I'm not the kind of person who needs my movies wrapped up with a pretty red bow but too me there was just too many unanswered things... too be honest I'm not even sure i saw whatever the hell happened in the end...
all i know is that i went along for the ride and felt a strong sense of disappointment at the finale.

with all that said I'm gonna give it another go see if I have a change of heart..

I liked Wer (although not purely a "found footage" film). The Den was great. Very unsettling and very harsh on its characters. The Afflicted was the most visually impressive and exciting one, but I struggled with one the most regarding the conceit of why he would still be filming everything. This is excused in the The Den and The Borderlands as it is the reason why the protagonists are there.

I like this one. I was epecting the usual slow burn, creepy occurences, and brief sharp shock reveal at the end, but I did like the actors and the general feel of impending doom. being a touch claustrophobic may have added a little tension to it.

I haven't seen Alien Abduction.

Apparantly they are considering the "found footage" approach to the next Friday 13th reboot. Not sure how that'll work out. I'll reserve judgement.

I understood what happened perfectly. At the end of the movie, they crawled into the gullet of some beast that then ate them.

It was an underground monster which had been worshipped for as long as man had inahbited the area. Human sacrifices were made to it, people protected the secret and drove outsiders away, etc.

Then the Christian religion established itself in the area and people in the area forgot the old ways. Somehow the church died off or the old ways were never truly abandoned and a baptism in the church woke the beast and started the weirdness up again.

I found the interaction between the crass tech specialist and the moody deacon very entertaining. Plenty of things were going on to keep the audience's attention.

You were probably expecting more action. Not that kind of horror film I'm afraid.
