I like SNL, this was not great

I've been watching SNL since I was a kid, since the days of Phil Hartman and Dana Carvey, and I've also watched and enjoyed the older era from these days that are portrayed in the film.

It felt like this wasn't so much for fans but for people in the show business industry, some films about the movie business also feel this way - like a wink to insiders that feel not so interesting to outsiders. So if you are in the performing arts, maybe this will click more with you.

As a bit of dramatized history it might be interesting, but I thought it would be simply more entertaining.

Performances and likenesses were good, I will admit. Good captures of Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd. Especially JK Simmons as Milton Berle, he stole his scenes.

Kinda like an SNL episode. Mediocre mixed with some highlights and funny dialogue, as well as some fails. Overall, decent watch unless you paid theater prices. Over-dramatized for Hollywood effect. But decent portrayals of many characters, esp Garret Morris, Akroyd, Newman, Belushi and Lorne Michaels. Chevy Chase is tough to mimic, but the guy did a pretty good job.

I went in blind thinking it was a documentary style with actual unseen footage, so I was disappointed seeing a reenactment, but the characters grew on me mostly. It had it's moments. Will be forgotten. 6-6.5. I didn't hate it, which is pretty good for the post 2020's era.

I was hoping for something like seeing the stars and writers of the founding era, bickering over skit ideas in the week leading up.
