One of the most epic fails...

As far as sequels go, this film was truly an 'epic fail'. I'm a big fan of the original Trainspotting, and initially, when I heard that a sequel was in the making, I thought to myself "Why bother? What's the point?" The original film was good enough. In my opinion, there are some films that are just better left alone. A sequel isn't always necessary, regardless how great the first film is. But with that being said, I still had some excitement about the sequel. I tried entering this film with an open mind, but was quickly disappointed.

First off, the story simply wasn't good or believable. I thought the entire plot was rather shallow, directionless, and all over the place. The characters just weren't the same. Even though I didn't have a problem with the acting, the direction of the characters is what bothered me. It seemed like one of those stories (or plots) that really didn't have anywhere else to go. And I hated how old flashbacks from the original film were used. It seemed like such a cheap and unimaginative way of rehashing the old Trainspotting nostalgia, in such a lame way. If you're going to make a sequel, you might as well come up with some new material, and not heavily rely on flashbacks. And like I said before, the story just wasn't believable or realistic. And bringing smartphones into the story really ruined it for me, seeing that Trainspotting is supposed to be well-known as a classic 90's druggie film. I know, I know...it's supposed to be focusing on the 'future setting' of the characters, but still, it didn't work. And don't even get me started on the ending.

What more can I say? It was really disappointing. Lesson to be learned from this filmmaking mistake..."if ain't broke, don't fix it." And seeing that I'm a fan of director Danny Boyle, I expected a lot more creativity and effort coming from him.

Sorry Danny...I'm gonna have to give this one a thumbs-down.

i was fairly excited when i heard of the sequel, then i forgot all about it until i got round to watching it last night.
The plot was a little 'all over the place' i agree , but overall i liked it.
didnt mind the flashbacks
the redo of the "choose life" thing was tolerable
I have no problem with smartphones, given the sequel is firmly set 20 years later.
but.. yeah.. i cant really remember the plot. a few plot points started , then they all petered out and it just focussed on the begbie issue...
It was nice to see the characters again though
