Clearly not an adaptation of 'Porno'

Kinda glad about that. I liked 'Porno' but it wasn't the dream 'Trainspotting' sequel that this movie appears to be (done as a movie it'd feel like 'Zack & Miri: Trainspotting Edition'). They're maintaining the Begbie vs. Renton element though.

I haven't read the book in ages, but there are a couple more things in common, if my memory isn't failing. This is mostly speculation from the trailer, of course, but for instance: The whole "choose life" monologue seems to be directed at Spud, and we see Renton both saving him from a "fall" and kicking a door calling his name. In the book Spud wants to kill himself so his wife can get the insurance money. Maybe they drawn the idea from there too.

Also, Sick boy running a pub, but having a more obscure business on the side seems to be in. They seemed to have changed it from pornography to cooking drugs, but it's somewhat the same concept.

It's obviously a new story and again, this is just speculation from my part. I just think that there will be some plot points taken from the book that we haven't seen yet. In any case, the trailer did get me pumped up.

It looks like they took elements from Porno (Port Sunshine, Spud being suicidal, etc.).

I'm also glad they're not following Porno to the letter. I enjoyed the book but there was too much focus on Nikki and not enough on the four main guys. Also the final confrontation between Begbie and Renton was disappointing.

You who wish to conquer pain, you must learn to serve me well.

reply

Yeah but the ending between Begbie and Sick Boy was brilliant!

reply

Agreed!

reply

True. I would have loved to see the outcome of that.
