"Loosely based on the book Porno by Irvine Welsh" - thank god

keyword: "loosely"
Almost fifteen years have passed since I read Porno, but I remember vividly that it was a huge letdown for me. I knew that they couldn't make a proper film from that material.
No offense to Irvine Welsh. I've met him-- extremely nice, cool man.

Hey that's great that he's a nice dude irl--he never comes across as snotty or elitist or pretentious in interviews. I, too, was well disappointed by Porno--judging by the trailer they've discarded most of it (I'm sure Rents has a wedding ring in one one scene!) but kept a few bits. I hope Spud is still in recovery and the ridiculous *beep* between him and Begbie is left out of the film. I would, however, like to see a vicious fight between him and Rents--he's a buff black belt in Karate in the book, isn't he?

"How perfectly goddamned delightful it all is, to be sure"

Porno is a great book. Very funny!

Porno is nowhere near the book that Trainspotting was although it did live up to its title with very descriptive sex scenes I felt that they just covered up for the lack of content about the actual characters and it lacks the genius that made the first book so special. Their is no way that this is going to be a XXX film so they are hopefully going to have to develop the actual story a lot more.

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock

This.

Just read this on Wikipedia, which includes a long timeline, hence the "2016 release": "In 2013 Boyle said that any sequel to Trainspotting would be loosely based on Porno which he has described as 'not a great book in the way that Trainspotting, the original novel, is genuinely a masterpiece.' Boyle says that if the sequel happens 2016 would be the release date."

Boyle has great taste.

Me too, but the book I didn't like was Glue and then when I read Porno I liked how all characters were used in the same story, it all made sense and made me appreciate Glue a bit more.

My favorite book however is Marabou Stork Nightmares, holy sh!t what a trip that was.
