Important Plot Hole...

In the Begbie/Renton chase scene why would the supposedly fit Mark give up outrunning Begbie, choosing to hide and jump on the car instead??

reply

He told Sick Boy or Spud he'd had heart problems & a stent fitted

reply

He was running up Edinburgh castle alright thought wasn't he with Spud?

reply

That was Arthur's Seat[an extinct volcano a couple miles from the castle, yet still in Edinburgh] he was running up.

He was running up Edinburgh castle alright thought wasn't he with Spud?

reply

Supposedly fit?

Just forget you ever saw it. It's better that way.

If Begbie can catch up with him riding on a car by cutting him off by walking down stairs it's logical he could do the same if Renton was on foot.

It's not important and it's not a plot hole.

It was the chase scene, one of the longest scenes in the movie.
Begbie didn't exactly strike as being the fittest especially after the weight gain...
yet the runner doesn't want to run?

reply

Even ignoring the fact he had nowhere to run as Begbie could and did cut him off by using the stairs it's still not a plot hole.

He could have just kept running, or strategically kept the distance between them.

Plot hole because Mark should be much fitter than Begbie

reply

A character not making the decision that you think he should make is not a plot hole.

The guy who's known for running can't run,
the little guy can catch him?

reply

We are going round in circles here are we not?

He can run...he did something faster than run...an he still got caught.

The only way it can be a plot hole is if the plot of the film was a 100m race.

The whole point of the scene is to set of a comedy gag of Renton recreating his laugh after getting knocked down in the first film so it is also not important...certainly not to the plot of the film.

Now I know you are going to ignore the logic here so I'll let you have the last word...I'll go back to what I'm doing and you can go back to wondering why the cowboys don't just shoot the Indian's horses.

Goodbye.

Yes I agree with you, this was done to setup the comedy gag!

Not ignoring the logic unlike the director in this instance where its impossible to believe Renton couldn't have run away easier.

Like a previous poster mentioned, lack of attention to detail here me thinks,
could have made it believable by showing Mark have heart palpitations or a reaction to the drugs etc, but instead Begbie is just faster to get the gag in!

reply

It's not a plot hole; it's a character making an imperfect decision (hardly for the first time). It only backfired because his phone rang.

reply

And Begbie had necked 3 viagra and had a heart rate of about 240bpm

reply

Yet another person that doesn't know what a plot hole is.
