T1 happened in '86... 20 yrs later?

In 2006 there was no Facebook or Instagram. Just saying.

The novel took place in the mid-80's. The film was supposed to take place in the early to mid 90's. Danny Boyle has said that he didn't really have a specific year in mind, it's just supposed to be "modern day". The styles cars and music all suggest it pretty much takes place when it came out. Which would make 20 years later around now.

now 2017 lol

I saw Trainspotting back in the day and it never crossed my mind that it was set in the late 90s.

It's set mid 90's. The costumes are of this time.
It's only loosely based upon the book (book is even darker)
