Good for Edinburgh tourism

I felt Boyle did an excellent job of showing Edinburgh from a junkies point of view, while still keeping Edinburgh in a positive light.

For example the running through the hills scene. Then also turning to show Edinburgh blended in with the city and countryside. Renton on the bus / tram through the city. And even the chase scene through the city I thought made Edinburgh look very nice!

I've been to Edinburgh once, 10 years ago, and was surprised at how nice a city it is

Edinburgh is amazing. My family are from there and I used to visit every year as a child. The festival is when it's most exciting though.

Yes, I agree. I can see alot of guys going up to the saunas now :).

Nah, I do agree, and also that Edinburgh is a great city to visit. I have lived in London all my 40+ years, and until just a few years ago I had no interest in going north of the border, but decided to check out the fringe festival for a couple of days, etc.

I really had no idea what to expect, but coming out of Edinburgh Waverley Station my jaw pretty much dropped, it's very impressive seeing a castle and an old town on your left, a big shopping street on your right, and then scanning round and seeing mountains / Sea behind you.

Really had a thing for Edinburgh then for a couple of years, and have been back about five times, other than the festival time I have been up for the Rugby, and also as a stopping point before going onto Inverness, and also the Highlands.

I do think the movie shows some of the prime points very nicely, more so than the first one. Guess that suits the more reflective mood of the movie.

Haha yeh defo, I think in TR1 Boyle just showed it from a junkies view. But in TR2 he mixed in both views.

Im not sure if in modern film making they always try to show off the location from a tourism point of view e.g like lord of the rings

Interested to read someone from London thinks this too. I'd like to try London a lot more. I only live about 100 miles away and have only been twice!

Think you might be giving a little too much credit to the depiction of Edinburgh, or more Boyle's intentions. The first movie was largely filmed in Glasgow, which probably meant they had to be careful not to show anything that would give it away geographically.

Someone that's a big Welsh fan told me this was due to budget constraints, not sure how true that is. The pub from the first one where Begbie throws the glass over the balcony is/was beside Glasgow University's halls in the West End and I think a lot of other scenes are filmed up Maryhill way.

Why would you presume that it is less nice than you thought?
