Enjoyable and nostalgic

Just don't expect it to be like the original film. There are moments of greatness, coming from the character's nostalgic conversations and the script's central theme of youth versus aging. I enjoyed it for what it was: A film about looking back, but thinking forward.

I agree with this concise and succinct little review wholeheartedly; sums up perfectly how I viewed and interpreted the film, generally. The film, imo, is well crafted in every aspect: the script, editing, cinematography, direction, acting & musical score. I absolutely loved the flashback scenes. I was particularly nostalgic throughout them, and even had a lump in my throat when the first one appeared on the big silver screen; I was thinking to myself "Ahwww, look how young we once were (I was 21 when the first Trainspotting came out)" and a torrent of old memories came flooding back from that period in my life, as well as the memories of watching an iconic British film. It was a genuinely powerful moment for me.

Equally as important was just how different T2 is from the original, which is a great thing. And this difference works extremely well, imo; it was so refreshing and a welcome breath of fresh air. It would be kinda boring if they tried to replicate the original, right? I felt that they got the right balance of newness and familiar ground perfect, and, as indicated previously, the flashback scenes are excellent and a perfect fit. This was a somewhat herculean task making this film, given the stature of its predecessor, but feel Danny Boyle and co. succeeded greatly with this endeavour. 8.5/10.
